| MANAROLA - Volastra and Groppo |
Near Manarola there are two uphill villages: Groppo and Volastra.
The latter is on the top of the hill, 300 meters over sea level. In the village there is an old sanctuary surrended by century old olive trees in the typical terraced farmland.
Although being at a relatively high altitude it lies on the top of a vertical cliff over the sea. The village has a round structure which shows up its medieval origins. Groppo lies halfway between Manarola and Volastra and has approximately 50 inhabitants. Both villages can be easily reached by foot (Manarola - Volastra 30 minutes) walking up the old paths, made up of steep stairs through the scrub suddenly opening up into picturesque panoramas. National Park's busses link the two village all year round.
